Who we are:

“Lost In The Woods” Homeschool Educational Services was started in the summer of 2021, after a visit with his daughter in New Hampshire and a conversation about the great need for qualified and certified teachers that can conduct informational portfolio evaluations. After some research, it was understood that in the state of New Hampshire a certified teacher does not necessarily mean certified in the state of New Hampshire, but any state.

Mr. Jeffrey A. Richards is a licensed and certified North Carolina Special Education teacher who has over twenty-eight years of experience working in the public school system, seventeen years for New Hampshire and the last eleven for North Carolina. Having attained his teaching certification through Western North Carolina University as well as UNC-Charlotte and UNC-Greensboro campuses, Mr. Richards is licensed K-9 in special education with an Adapted Curriculum in Science, Social Studies, English Language Arts, and Math, as well as K-9 in General Education for Science, Social Studies, Math, and English-Language Arts. In addition, Mr. Richards holds credentials in Social-Emotional Learning, Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADHD, Behavioral-Emotional Disorders, as well as having worked a great deal of his career in the non-verbal communication field with children on the autism spectrum. Mr. Richards is currently the Western North Carolina Representative for the North Carolina Division of Autism Developmental Disabilities. He resides in Hendersonville, NC and is currently employed by Brevard Charter School.

The data will include easy to read graphs, understanding percentile scores, Reading Lexile scores, and where the student is on grade level academics. There will be three separate progress monitoring online programs used, each reputable and used by teachers across the globe. Zoom calls with parents are included to go over data results.

Consultation

Online Educational Consultation/Teaching Methodology-$50.00 per session. Using Zoom/Google Meets/Microsoft Meeting applications, parents can connect with Mr. Richards for advice, insight, and teaching methods to best serve their child/student. Also, teaching techniques for Social-Emotional Learning as well as challenging behavior redirection techniques. Part of this consultation can be in the form of a conversation about possible learning deficits with the student. Sometimes formal educational testing by an educational psychologist can give insight into how the student learns and ways to best meet their academic needs. Learning disabilities can never be left unidentified. Goals and Accommodations can be created for the best possible learning experience for the student.

Advocacy

Online Parent Advocacy-$100.00 for up to three meetings with public education administrators, state representatives, truant officers, etc.

Education is hard! Homeschooling is hard! Navigating the laws, guidelines, and policy procedures and decision making at the state and federal level can be hard to understand. If at any time the homeschooling education process is in question, it helps to have the evaluator represent the family as a parent advocate for the education of their child/student.
